2013 MLB Predictions

In the spirit of notable prognosticators like Nostradamus, Punxsutawney Phil, the Chicago Daily Tribune staff who predicted Dewey’s defeat of Truman, and crackpot radio preacher Harold Camping, I offer my official predictions for the 2013 Major League Baseball season.

American League

East Champs: YankeesCentral Champs: Tigers

West Champs: Angels

Wildcard: Red Sox, Rangers

AL Champs: Tigers over Angels

National League

East Champs: Braves

Central Champs: Cardinals

West Champs: Dodgers

Wildcard: Reds, Giants

NL Champs: Braves over Dodgers

World Series Matchup

Tigers over Braves

Here are a few other assorted predictions regarding the three teams that I loyally follow:

  • The Boston Red Sox will defy expectations and rebound from a horrible 2012 campaign. They will make the playoffs as a Wild Card team and will defeat the Yankees in over half of their head-to-head matchups.
  • The Philadelphia Phillies will finish in third place (ahead of the Mets and Marlins) and will begin the 2014 season with Ryne Sandburg as their skipper. Fans will finally elect the great Curt Schilling to the Alumni Wall of Fame.
  • The Pittsburgh Pirates will win 78 games, finishing seven games ahead of the Chicago Cubs. Fans will continue to file into PNC Park for the numerous bobble-head doll nights and fireworks displays.
